1930s Green & Red Sequined Silk Qipao, Cheongsam - Bust 82 cm
What a firecracker of a dress!
Green silk qipao from Shanghai, or cheongsam as they're known in Hong Kong, is lavishly beaded with red sequins and clear seed beads. This garment is entirely hand stitched and every sequin and bead is individually fastened, which is why the beadwork is in such good condition. The dress is ankle length, has the sleeves cut in one piece with the front and back, has no bust darts and opens completely down one side, fastening with frogs. There are brass snaps at the shoulder. Lined with silk. The label bears the name of Shanghai department store Sincere and dates to before the Chinese Revolution, when Sincere had to relocate to Hong Kong.
Bust 82 cm (32")
Waist to 82 cm (32")
Hips 87-89 cm (34-35")
Neck 32.5 cm (12.75") when fastened, or leave it slightly open as shown on the mannequin
Sleeve 14 cm (5.5") from underarm

Very good. There are a few small faint marks on the upper front, as shown. A few sequins missing near the neck closure.
