1920s Vintage - Wool Smock, Blouse, Top, With Embroidery - Bust 91-96 cm
1910s-1920s Vintage - Wool Undershirt, Smock, Blouse, Top, With Embroidery
This beautiful wool blouse was originally a woman's woollen under garment or night wear during the late 1910s or early 1920s. It is the deep, buttery cream of aged wool. The top is gently gathered across the front into a shaped and embroidered yoke to create a smock like effect. There is a large pleat at centre back for ease of movement. The three-quarter length sleeves are trimmed with a ruffle and lace. It opens at both shoulders and closes with linen buttons and loops. To hide some moth holes somebody had embroidered around them to make them a feature, and as I found quite a few more holes, I have added to the embroidery.
The delightful tag shows a woman wearing a mortar board for the "Oxford" label. Women had been allowed to study at Oxford since the 19th century, but were only allowed to graduate and receive their degrees from 1920. This brand is a celebration of that campaign and win.
