Beautiful but gently wounded antique camisole top with inset bird lace front and back.
Sheer white cami top has lace yoke and sleeves and a scooped neckline drawn up with ribbon through eyelet holes in the lace. Lace panels depicting a bird have been inserted front and back. The waist is drawn in with narrow cotton tape. Closes at the front with shell buttons beneath a lace covered placket. Fabric is a very fine and sheer cotton batiste. Handmade garment, 1900s-1910s.
Measurements
Small - be sure to check the back measurement as this is where it's smallest, measured across between the centre of the sleeve seams.
- Fits bust up to 87 cm (34") if you are narrow across the back like my mannequin
- Waist maximum 79 cm (31")
- Back 32.5 cm (12.75")
- Length 37 cm (14.5")
Condition
Fair and wearable. It has a few areas of damage and repairs. A previous owner created underarm gussets to patch the blown out underarms, which works well. I removed pockets for nursing pads which had been added and you can see the tiny holes where the stitching was unpicked. A number of small holes and a patch beneath a larger hole under one arm. I have replaced the damaged ribbon at the neck with modern ribbon.
