Piece of shaped and lace trimmed netting would have originally been a trim for the neckline of an evening gown but now also makes a fancy short scarf for special occasions.
Black cotton net is shaped with pleats to sit around the shoulders. The centre features a flower of handmade Battenberg lace and there is a double stripe of fancy tape as trim near the neck edge. The pointed ends are trimmed with crocheted bobbles. The under side has "female" snaps where the trim was once attached to a gown. Handmade - 1910s.
Width 11.5 cm (4.5")
Length 104 cm (41") including bobbles
Fair. Some of the stitches holding the pleats in place have been lost. There is a mend in one end, as shown. I have reattached one of the bobbles.
