Antique Victorian full length cotton nightgown has rows of narrow pin tucks above and below the bust and in the high neck. It has a pretty lacy embroidered tape inserted into the neck, cuffs and front opening. The initials RC are embroidered on the bust. The back is pleated into the neckline. It opens at the side front where this is a narrow frill, and closes with tiny mother of pearl buttons, including the neck. The fabric is a very fine cotton lawn. Sleeve seams have spoke stitching. Beautifully home made garment - 19th century.
Fits bust 91 cm (36"), garment measures 101 cm (40")
Shoulders 39 cm (15.5")
Sleeve 53 cm (21")
Neck 35.5 cm (14")
Length 137 cm (54")
Fair condition. Wearable with care as a dress, but I would not advise sleeping in it as the fabric is not robust enough. The main fault is a pale, yellowish mark (2 x 2.5 cm/1") on the front beneath the bottom row of tucks. There is a mend in the hem and a few tiny unnoticeable holes and spots.
