Very old necklace made from seeds and sliced seed pods, which have the look of walnut shells. These are joined by chain links and close with a screw barrel clasp. It's very short, barely more than choker length. It's former owner told me her grandmother brought it to Australia from England when she emigrated. The clasp is silver tone, the chain links have darkened with tarnish. The seed pod pieces appear to have been polished or lacquered. The owner believed it to be from the 1920s, but I think more likely to be 1930s-1940s.
Length 39 cm (15 3/8")
Width 1.5 cm (5/8")
Excellent. Some darkening to the color of the chain.
