The hand embroidery in these two ivory handkerchiefs has been executed with superb skill. Each features drawn thread work and one has a very fancy handdrawn and embroidered edge. Made some time in the first half of the 20th century.
Please note each has some damage.
The top hankie appears to be very fine linen. It features drawn thread work and a hand rolled edge. Measures 27 x 25.5 cm (10.5 x 10"). It has two holes, as shown.
The bottom hankie, worked on cotton batiste, demonstrates superb skill, with the intricate edging, fine drawn thread work and flower embroidery. Possibly made as a gift for a bride.
It measures 28 x 28 cm (11"). There is a large hole and small tear in one side. I am hoping that a person with more skill than I have will be able to repair it.
