Beautiful authentic flapper dress - only suitable for research or display.

Below-knee length, sleeveless, drop waist dress with two tiered skirt falling from the hips and a high V neckline. The matching jacket has long sleeves with shaped wrist edge and is gathered into a pair of rhinestone studded silver tone buckles at the front. The buckles do not close together, although they probably did once. The jacket attaches to the dress with snaps at the front of the neck. Fabric is old gold silk lace. No labels, it's a custom made outfit - 1920s.

Measurements

  • Bust 92-97 cm (36-38")
  • Dress length 117 cm (46")

Condition

Poor. This baby has just danced too many Charlestons. The silk fabric is very fragile and has numerous holes, especially at the shoulders of both dress and jacket. A few darns in the lace skirt where I attempted to mend it before giving up. I tried backing it with gold bridal tulle but it was just too stiff so I removed most of it, but left it as reinforcement at the dress shoulders where the lace was most damaged. Underarms have perspiration stains. A few small marks.

Beautiful for display on a mannequin. I did consider having it framed at one stage. An interesting study piece for research.
