Beautiful but wounded cream silk lace knickers with elaborate lace insertion.
Antique bloomers are loose-fitting and feature panels of silk and lace inserted about the legs, spoke stitching and deep lace borders. Little diamond shaped embroidered panels complete the design. They're scooped up slightly shorter at the side of the legs. The original waistline casing with drawstring was badly damaged and I had to remove it. I've replaced it with a wide casing and elastic as the drawstring caused too much stress to the delicate old silk, and I've also added a couple of patches. A superbly handmade item, so no labels. 1900s-1910s.
Measurements
Size - Large, for a loose fit - I have shown it pinned on the mannequin.
- Waist measures 82 cm (32") unstretched. Stretches comfortably to 92 cm (36")
- Hips to 102 cm (40"). Although the garment is much wider than this, any larger and you won't be able to get them on through the waist opening.
- Waist to crotch at the front 38 cm (15")
- Inside leg 24 cm (9.5")
- Length at the side to the bottom of the leg 49.5 cm (19.5")
Condition
Fair, wearable, repaired condition. Alterations to the original waistband as described above. I've added a large patch of silk to a bad tear at the waist, and a smaller patch over the largest hole in the seat. A number of other small holes, including one in the crotch. Some rusty coloured spots, mostly on the lace, which I have not attempted to remove.
